Omikron: The Nomad Soul hit the shelves in 1999. Being French company's Quantic Dream's first game, having been in development for ... . It was met with mixed opinion (?) But the huge open world that the game offered created many mesmerised fans.
In Omikron you play no specific character other than yourself. With the ability to re-incarnate' into many different characters.
The concept of the story is that in fact through playing the game you are trapped in the world of Phaenon, which has become inhabited by demons who walk among the humans so that they may steal their souls and feed them to Astaroth, where the souls suffer eternal damnation. So it is your job to stop them, as you are enrolled into the ranks of The Awakened, led by Boz (Bowie) to fight against Astaroth, Ix the super computer and a host of other bad guys...
Omikron was one of the first real 'all-in-one' titles, involving the player shoot in FP, fight out with demons/humans, and run around solving puzzles as-in an adventure title.
It's really a game that wished it could be as nonlinear as Shenmue, but fell a little short in that goal. Hopefully this will be an improvement with Omikron 2.
This is a little short at the moment, but will be improved.
