Omikron news

Heavy Rain is forecast
Sun, 14 May 2006 06:57:17 +0000

by Catherine
Ok so this was shown at E3, I had never heard of it before, probably as it was being kept quiet by Quantic Dream.

As always they're using their own motion capture studio and what not, and have put together this demo for their newest game Heavy Rain. I'll now add some information on the game, that was posted up on Boom Town just to get you interested.

This is the official video of the real-time PS3 demo presented by Quantic Dreams (creators of Omikron and Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit) for Heavy Rain, a new video game franchise, designed for next generation consoles and PC systems, based on emotional immersion and innovative game play mechanics.

Called "The Casting", this video demo features a young actress attending to the casting of the game to get a role. It features a virtual actor expressing emotions and crying in real time 3D. "The Casting" features many Next Gen features including full body and facial motion capture (eyes, pupils, fingers and tongue animation), real time tears, real time wrinkles on the face, advanced skin shades and advanced rendering features (Depth of Field, Spherical Harmonics, and High Dynamic Range).

In my mind that just shouts "pretty".

So you can download the demo from here

And I have to tell you the trailer demo is a hefty 132mb so may take a while to download, but I'll pop up a picture as an incentive

Your thoughts everyone? I myself can't wait, I'm sure Quantic Dream won't fail to amaze.

Omikron Review
Sun, 26 Feb 2006 21:25:31 +0000

by Catherine
Our Staff member Charlotte has created us a lovely audio review of Omikron: The Nomad Soul, for the PC and Dreamcast for those unsure of the game, or wish to know more about the first Omikron. The review itself lasts 9:27 and is 9MB. It tells us her view on the game concerning graphics, gameplay, sound, value, story and the good and the bad. It's well worth a listen if you can't be bothered to read a written review, listen here!

Infraworld Cancelled
Fri, 10 Feb 2006 16:25:41 +0000

by Catherine
Ok it's not so much Omikron 2 info mainly, but Infraworld has now sadly been cancelled, and the poor game never even managed to see the light of day. I was shown this article at Working-Title from my source known as Morten N

Infraworld, at date, is cancelled. The concept did not appeal to publishers.

Although they did talk a little of Omikron 2

Last year, you announced Omikron 2 which came as a surprise to many players. Where are you going with this game? Can you give us some details?

This is more than a rumour, as we have started to work on this very innovative and very challenging project (Omikron 2, called KARMA). However, you shouldn't expect this title anywhere before 2009. Quantic Dream will be developing another title before that. It is actually already in the making, we have a deal in place.

Check out the whole article though, it's a nice read, and it's not a response by David Cage for once.

But hey, now we have a rough release date, just another 2 years.

David Cage JumpButton Interview
Fri, 06 Jan 2006 09:56:21 +0000

by Catherine
I was contacted by a Mr. Wearring from Australia who informed me of an Australian magazine that has an interview with David Cage, and at the moment they have it posted up on the net, it's main focus is Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) but it mentions Omikron a few times, the interview is in .pdf format and split into two different files and can be viewed here and here

The following is an extract from the interview:

JumpButton: Fahrenheit is both a fantastic story and a truly great game to play. Why do you think people are attracted to the art of storytelling? And how does Fahrenheit fit within this framework?
David Cage: Telling stories is one of the oldest human activities. Each time man created a new media, he used it to tell stories: paintings in grottos, writing, theatre, cinema, television. Human beings love to feel emotions, and stories are a great way to feel many different and intense emotions without having to leave your chair.

The magazine itself is called JumpButton and the interview is an enjoyable read, check it out while the site has it up.

Rumours
Tue, 03 Jan 2006 14:30:28 +0000

by Catherine
Well with no new news on Omikron 2 the sites been a little slow, there's not been anything mentioned by David Cage, or Quantic Dream for that matter, which is a bit disappointing, I came across this article earlier today. Although I am unsure of where they have gotten their facts from, but they have stated that Omikron 2 has been discussed as a release title for the PS3 as you can see below.

For those just psyched about the PS3's upcoming launch, the following titles have been discussed for release when the console launches: Dark Sector, Devil May Cry 4, EA Sports Fight Night Round 3, Final Fantasy PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Omikron 2. These titles are among about 30 expected to launch along with Sony's next gen console.

Now I'm not saying it's a bad thing for it to be a launch title for the PS3, with the game not having much in the way of information on the internet I find it highly unlikely that something like this will happen. I may be wrong but I think Omikron 2 will be getting a 2007 release.

The Nomad Soul: Exodus
Sat, 19 Nov 2005 16:23:07 +0000

by Catherine
Well I was informed a few months back by "Morten N" about The Nomad Soul: Exodus, which was set to be the second Omikron game, but the project was thrown away because of something to do with Eidos I am told. Anyway I feel what was made of it should be given a page, as the artist who drew the concept art did a very nice job, you can always check out the concept art he did for other games on his website. This contains the work he has done on other games, including the likes of Fahrenheit, BC, bLAST (Fahrenheit) and Dune Generations. (I warn you the site is in French so unless you can read the language it may be a little hard to understand).

Anyway you can now find the new section of the site in the contents bar under media which is called Exodus

A quiet few months
Mon, 14 Nov 2005 14:51:08 +0000

by Catherine
Well as I'm sure you all can see, the site is pretty slow with news at the moment, QuanticDream seem rather quiet with information on Omikron 2, which is a real shame. The second there is news I will be informing you all right away, but for now all we can do is sit back and wait.
